Sometimes there’s a strain… well… it’s the strain for its time and place. Fits right in there like a boot in a stirrup. And that strain is called… well, that’s not important. What is important is how it makes a man feel. Now this strain here… it don’t rush you. No sir. It just sort of eases in, like a quiet breeze through a half-open window. Starts up in the head, loosens the gears a bit, gets the thoughts meanderin’ instead of marchin’. Then it settles down into the body, spreads out nice and slow, like butter on warm toast. Ain’t the kind that sends you rattlin’ the walls or questionin’ your life choices. No, this one’s more… agreeable. Companionable. The kind you take along when you’ve got nowhere in particular to be and no real intention of gettin’ there. And I reckon that’s about all a person can ask for in a strain.

I’m not gonna do it. It’s too easy and I don’t always have to go for the low hanging fruit. I could though. Like so many others, I could be obvious and conjure a classic line from the unholy legion of movie quotes that occupy my screen-addled brain, replacing reason and sensibility with lines from a straight-to-DVD Hellraiser movie or a Strongbad email. But I won’t. I’m not going to reference a certain beloved, neo-noir dramedy about a stoner who loves bowling and drinks White Russians. I’m showing self-restraint and not indulging. Indulgences are good for the soul but can become a habit if you let them. For instance, an indulgence I try to avoid is the often frowned-upon Wake & Bake. While I certainly don’t judge anyone for whom the morning smoke is a regular thing, it’s just not my style. This is due only to how much I enjoy it; I know it would quickly become a habit. For most strains I enjoy on a regular basis, the Wake & Bake cancels all morning plans and is a serious threat to my afternoon as well. Enter White Russian, which could be a stage direction in literally any Chekhov play, a sativa-dominant hybrid of White Widow and AK-47 (get it?), and well-known for its high potency. It was with this that, upon awaking one fine day to once again wallow in the agonizingly slow heat death of the universe, I stood, as if in defiance against this cosmic decay and, to the rising of the pitiless dawn itself, declared: “Oh, screw it. I’m having a Wake & Bake.” Fast forward an hour or two, when my wife and I went out to accomplish our tedious grown-up tasks, I felt a lingering calm that carried me through our trek into the wasteland. What starts with a slow, calming high becomes a surprisingly long-lasting relaxation which left me both uplifted and energetic and got me wondering if sometimes an indulgence may in fact be a good habit in disguise. And if you disagree, well that’s just, like, your opinion, man… Ah, damn it.

I'm mostly used to smoke weed that makes me lazy, so energizing strains like this one are a welcomed change for me from time to time. I really liked the clear-headed and focused high it gave me. In fact, after smoking White Russian it was the first time that I was able to do lots of work and fulfill all my duties after I had weed. That feeling of accomplishment while being high was something new to me and it felt super nice.
