Cannabis extracts (also called concentrates) are made by separating the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes from the flower itself — producing products that typically test between 60–95% THC. The big split is how they're made: live resin, badder, shatter and sauce use a solvent like butane, while rosin is solventless, pressed with only heat and pressure.
Texture is the other axis. Badder is whipped and frosting-like, shatter is glassy and stable, diamonds are crystalline THCA usually swimming in terpene sauce, and RSO is a full-spectrum oil made for ingestion rather than dabbing. Around Los Angeles, a gram of quality extract runs $9.06–$149.31 — solventless rosin and premium badder sit at the top of that range.
Start low: a dab the size of a grain of rice is plenty for most people. Extracts hit faster and harder than flower, so check the certificate of analysis on every Weedyy listing and pick the potency that matches your tolerance — not the biggest number on the shelf.
Live resin is extracted from flash-frozen plants using a solvent, preserving a loud terpene profile. Rosin is solventless — pressed from flower or hash with heat and pressure. Rosin usually costs more per gram; live resin usually tastes louder for the price.
Most are dabbed with a rig or e-rig at 480–540°F, vaporized in a concentrate pen, or crumbled on top of a bowl or into a joint. RSO is the exception — it's made to be eaten, not dabbed.
Flower typically tests 15–30% THC; extracts test 60–95%. A small dab can equal several hits of flower, so first-timers should start with the smallest amount that's practical and wait a few minutes between doses.
Solventless products (rosin, hash) are made with only heat, pressure or water — no butane or CO₂. Neither method is inherently safer when lab-tested, but solventless is prized for flavor and craft, and priced accordingly.
Cool, dark and airtight. Short term, a sealed glass jar away from sunlight works; long term, refrigeration slows terpene loss. Let cold extracts warm up before opening to avoid condensation.
In the Los Angeles market right now: value badder and shatter from $18–25, live resin $25–40, and premium solventless rosin $40–60. Weedyy's price index flags listings well above or below market.
